Memory Drop ("the App") respects your privacy. The App displays photos from the same month and day in past years — "On This Day" — on your device. This policy explains how the App handles information.
The App collects none of the following information. No account registration or login is required.
To find "On This Day," the App reads your photos, Live Photos, and videos on your device through the iOS photo framework (PhotoKit). Reading and display are performed on your device, and the photos themselves are never sent to external servers.
We don't request photo access on first launch. No permission is needed just to view the demo. We ask for photo access only when you choose "Start with my photos." Limited access (allowing only selected photos) is also supported.
The App does not modify your photo library on its own. Exclusions such as "hide from now on" are treated as hiding within the App; the photos themselves are not deleted. Sharing happens only when you explicitly act.
All data you create or configure in the App is stored only on your device.
This data is never sent to external servers operated by the developer or any third party. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, the App's data may be included in your device backup; that handling follows Apple's privacy policy.
The App can estimate area names like "Kyoto" or rough phrases like "near the aquarium" from the location recorded in a photo. This is an optional feature; in settings you can choose "Off," "Area name only," or "Up to landmarks."
Resolving area names (reverse geocoding) uses the standard iOS geographic features. This converts location coordinates into an area name, but the photos themselves are not sent. The App does not assert shop names, and shows gently rounded phrasing like "near ~" or "memories of ~."
When naming and in similar situations, the App may suggest hints about presence, such as whether "a person appears" or "an animal such as a dog or cat appears." This analysis runs on your device (on-device) using the iOS image-analysis framework (Vision) and is not sent externally. It does not identify who someone is by name.
If your photos are stored in iCloud Photos, the App may fetch the data needed for display when necessary. This is the iOS mechanism for bringing in photos from your own iCloud; the App does not send your photos out externally.
When you share photos or "photos from this day," a preview is always shown right before sharing. You choose whether to show the date, place, landmark, people's names, pet names, and notes, and then share via the standard iOS share sheet. Sharing happens only through your explicit action.
The App displays no ads and does not track user behavior. It uses no third-party advertising or analytics software (SDKs).
We don't request notifications on first launch. If you enable them in settings, the App schedules notifications on your device to let you know about that day's "On This Day." No information is sent externally to schedule or deliver notifications.
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
The App uses the standard iOS security features to protect data on your device.
This policy may be updated as needed. When changes are made, we will update the "Last updated" date on this page to reflect them.
